because you dont want to both cause stress to your ram with the unit pressing on the ram OR cause stress to your WII bey not giving it room to vent
THIS IS ALL DEPENDENT ON THE TOWER YOU USE thats why i use this deep tower i picked up for 40$ at tigerdirect for this reason 
i also MEASURED everything EXTERNALLY on the tower in the front and side of the tower so i know where to cut out the side for the MEM.C and GC paddles. (or make ports in the front using paddle extentions cords.)

Basicly the key is to use a tower that is DEEP enough that when you put your WII into the slot you cut there is at least 4 inches between your PChardware (like your RAM or PCI cards) I got my tower from tigerdirect for 40$ and just moved my hardware over to it. having that 4 inches is key AND A FAN to help circulation helps as well
